FAQ's

What does Southern Tablelands Group Training do?

Southern Tablelands Group Training (STGT) employs Apprentices and Trainees and places them with host employers for training and employment purposes.  This means the Apprentice or Trainee is an employee of STGT and is hosted by the host employer.  STGT is responsible for the administration of employment including recruitment, wages, workers' compensation claims, superannuation, annual leave and sick leave.

STGT establishes and manages formal training and advises the Apprentice or Trainee on the details of training required.  The apprentice / trainee’s TAFE attendance and progress is monitored by STGT.

How does the recruitment of the Apprentice or Trainee work?

We pride ourselves on our ability to thoroughly screen and recommend applicants.

  1. STGT organises local advertising to attract local candidates and candidates from the employers' own shortlist can also be considered.
  2. Short listed applicants undergo pre-selection assessments with each candidate required to pass the assessments and be successful at an interview with STGT.
  3. STGT forward recommendations to the Host Employer, who is then invited to conduct a final interview / assessment to choose the successful candidate.
Who manages the payroll?

Employment of Apprentices through Southern Tablelands Group Training is under the specified award for the chosen industry.  Staff pay, including the determination of allowances and entitlements (such as workers compensation, holiday pay and loading, and 9% superannuation), keeping wage records, and paying group taxes are managed by us.

Who pays for Workers Compensation claims?

As the apprentice / trainee will be an employee of Southern Tablelands Group Training, their Worker’s Compensation won’t affect your premiums.  The Worker’s Compensation paperwork and management of cases is also completed by us.  We also manage any return to work programs where necessary.

What does it cost and how do I pay?

The cost of providing these services to you is covered by an invoice forwarded each week by our Finance Department.  By using the streamlined services that our company provides, you can have that extra pair of hands and reduce the hassles sometimes associated with hiring a trainee or apprentice.
