Goulburn boy Brett Hill has won the Transport and Logistics (Warehousing) Certificate IV award at the NSW Training Awards, after attending the Illawarra 2010 Regional Training Awards night on Friday 16th July 2010.
These awards are sponsored by the Department of Education and Training, and recognise outstanding achievement by apprentices, trainees, and vocational students in school, as well as the quality of our training providers and employers.
Finalists are chosen from the regional competitions held throughout NSW. This year, the State winners of these Awards will be announced at a gala presentation dinner at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on 16 September 2010 hosted by the NSW Minister for Education and Training. The NSW winners will then represent NSW at the Australian Training Awards, to be held in Sydney on 19 November 2010.
When he first applied for a Transport and Distribution traineeship, Brett was already interested in that industry having worked at the Coles Distribution Centre. At that time, his long term goals included being his own boss, but also being able to help kids who are in need or who have nowhere else to turn as he relates really well with younger people and likes helping people.
Having completed three consecutive traineeships in the Transport industry, Brett has a solid understanding of the training system in this industry, and the opportunities that are available at each level. Brett always completed his coursework in record time, and proves himself practically on the job with no issues. His coursework has always been completed on-the-job, requiring self-motivation and discipline in completing the work in a timely manner, and being available and prepared for on-site assessment. Brett finds that he is able to focus on his coursework and become self motivated as it is an area of interest to him and he has a desire to do well.
Brett won a scholarship and completed his Certificate IV Training and Assessment, allowing him to expand on his original future goals to becoming a trainer/assessor in his field of expertise, to enable other young people the opportunity to gain qualifications as he has done.
Brett has set the benchmark high for trainees in the future, with his personality, maturity and ability to undertake his coursework with ease. Brett’s commitment to his traineeship(s), to learning, and to his Host Employer, reflects the high standard of which he represented the Hunter Valley Training Company (and in particular, Southern Tablelands Group Training).
